Block Run/Walk set for Saturday

The annual Lookingglass Block Run/Walk, a fundraiser for the Roseburg High School cross country team, is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Saturday.

Runners and walkers can choose between distances of two or five miles. The race starts and finishes at Lookingglass Elementary. Entry fees are $25 (with T-shirt ordered after Feb. 27) and $10 (no T-shirt).

RHS baseball to hold can/bottle drive

The Roseburg High School baseball team is holding a fundraiser, a can/bottle drive on Saturday at Legion Field.

Anyone wishing to make a donation can drop off their cans or bottles from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., assistant coach John Thomas said.

Lacrosse clinic on tap Saturday

The Roseburg High boys lacrosse team will hold a lacrosse skills clinic for boys in grades 6-8 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday at Finlay Field.

Registration begins at 8:15 a.m. and cost is $20. The clinic will be run by the varsity coaching staff and varsity players.

YMCA swimmers shine at meet

Twenty-four Roseburg YMCA Swim Team members participated in the 2013 Pacific Region North Regional Championships on Feb. 23-24. Over 640 swimmers from Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana and Alaska took part.

Robert Gosman (age 12) won a gold in the 50 backstroke, took silver in the 100 back and was third in the 100 individual medley and 200 IM. McKenzie Vogel (13) won a gold in the 50 butterfly and took bronze in the 100 fly. Jesse Sadler (17) claimed a bronze in the 200 back and 100 back.

Carson Murphy (15) finished third in the 50 breaststroke, and added silvers in the 100 fly, 200 fly and 50 fly. Katelin Lambert (16) achieved a silver in the 200 back, 50 back, and bronze in the 100 back. Brighid Rickman (10) took a bronze in the 100 fly.


Dodgeball Tournament scheduled Saturday

The eighth-grade class at Camas Valley School is hosting a fundraiser, a Dodgeball Tournament on Saturday in the school gym.

Sign-ups begin at 9 a.m., with a rules meeting set for 9:45. Cost is $18 per team, and each team of six must have at least two females. Age groups are 13-17 and 18-and-over.

Scramble golf tournament set

Myrtle Creek Golf Course and Umpqua Golf Resort in Sutherlin will play host to the Seven Feathers St. Patrick’s Day Scramble on March 16-17.

The two-man scramble will begin at 10 a.m. both days. Entry fee is $140.

Women’s softball meeting tonight

The Douglas County Women’s Slowpitch Softball Association will hold team registration and an informational meeting at 7 tonight at the Douglas County Library.

Polamalu scores ace at UGR

Douglas High football coach Joe Polamalu experienced some good fortune on the golf course, scoring a hole-in-one on the par-3, 182-yard No. 6 hole at Umpqua Golf Resort on Feb. 28.

Polamalu used a 6-iron on the shot, which was witnessed by Kevin Wilson and Jim Maciariello.


Ball takes title in Champs tourney

Roseburg’s Stefan Ball won the boys 16 singles championship with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Kieran McTague of Portland in the Umpqua Valley Tennis Center Champs Tournament on Feb. 24.

Other winners included William Leach of Portland (boys 14 singles), Maryia Lucia of Kirkland, Wash. (girls 12 singles), Taylor Rees of Portland (girls 16 singles) and Madisyn Bryant of Eugene (girls 18 singles).
