Prep Baseball: Forrester, UVC crush Illinois Valley

Jake Forrester tripled twice and combined with Ian Graham on a five-inning no-hitter in Game 1, and the Umpqua Valley Christian lineup busted Game 2 open early for easy wins of 11-0 and 13-3 over Illinois Valley Saturday at Legion Field.

Forrester, a junior, went 3-for-3 with three runs and three RBIs. In his four innings on the mound, he also struck out eight and walked three.

Greg Suhrstedt added three hits and three RBIs in Game 1 and Ian Dahl went 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI.

Suhrstedt had two more hits in the nightcap, recording two runs an an RBI, while Bryant Perez doubled and singled to score twice and knock in a pair.

The Monarchs (9-2 overall) play another nonleague game at 4 p.m. Monday at Cascade Christian.

MERLIN — The Knights (8-3) got solid pitching performances from Stephen Parker and Kevin Olmstead as they swept a nonleague doubleheader from the Bulldogs.

Parker pitched a three-hitter in the opener, striking out 12 and walking two. Ryan Eakin pitched well in defeat for the Bulldogs (2-8), fanning seven and walking two while giving up three hits. Sutherlin’s lone run came on an RBI single by Wyatt McKnight in the first inning.

Olmstead went the distance in the nightcap, allowing four hits. He aided his cause at the plate by going 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs and Zion Swanson was 3-for-3 with a double and three RBIs.

Austin Kennedy stroked a run-scoring single for the Bulldogs in the sixth and Beau Grauf had the lone extra-base hit, a double.

Sutherlin opens Far West League play at home Tuesday against Siuslaw, weather permitting.

At Legion Field, Joel Graham set the tone atop the Monarchs’ lineup by going 3-for-5 with a double, four RBIs and two runs scored in the Big Fir League win.

Eleven different Monarchs chipped into the team’s total of 17 hits. Ian Graham went 3-for-4 with three runs scored an an RBI, Danny Medak was 2-for-3 with three runs and three RBIs, and Bryant Perez went 2-for-4 with four runs and three RBIs.

The Monarchs (3-1 BFL) scored 10 times in the second inning and finished off the win in five due to the mercy rule.

The Pirates fell to 1-10 overall and 0-4 in the BFL.
