Letter: Looking for answers on the political scene

Looking for answers

Am I mad to think that the Republican Party is destroying life as we know it so they can build up their party in an effort to win elections? The following may be a list to think about when you decide to fill in your next ballot.

Has Congress considered President Obama’s jobs bill that would put tens of thousands of people to work shoring up our crumbling infrastructure? It appears Congress is working less and less as time passes, yet its members vote themselves raises every chance they get.

Michele Bachmann claims women, children and seniors will die if Obamacare continues. I can’t decide if her statement is an absurdity or if she herself is an absurdity.

Doing away with Planned Parenthood should be considered outrageous, since women’s health depends on mammograms, treatment of female organ problems, and the dispensing of contraceptives to ward off pregnancies. Isn’t anyone interested in the health of low- and middle-class American women who comprise a great proportion of our population?

And yes, gun laws. As a city person, I believe all people should have a gun if they so desire, but not automatic weapons with large magazines like soldiers use on the battlefield. Not so with Sheriff Hanlin, who says he will not enforce a weapons ban law if one is passed. I wonder why the citizens of this county think they will someday have to use these weapons against our own government. Have I missed the insurrection part of this 21st century?

Lastly, I wonder when someone in our government will do something about the terribly long wait our veterans have to endure at VA facilities when returning home. If we call our present society civilized, I wonder what an authentic civilized society would look like?
