Claribel Malinda Larsen

Passed away Wednesday, February 26, 2014. She was born to Willard Leroy Swearingen and Percelia Dollie Arnold on May 23, 1930, in her grandparent’s house located in Brownsville, Oregon.

She and her parents moved to Scio, Oregon, when she was 18 months old and lived her teen years there on part of the Arnold Donation Land Claim. She was an only child, but always had family near and lots of cousins to play with. She went to elementary school at the Arnold School and high school at Scio High. She subsequently went to the University of Oregon where she graduated with a BA in Literature and a Masters in Library Science. She then taught Elementary school at various locations and ran the library at Fremont Junior High in Roseburg. Her career lasted 28 years until retiring in 1980.

She has always been curious about everything - plants, animals and people. She enjoyed the camping and fishing trips with her husband (even the tenting)! She was an avid reader who loved a good mystery book. She especially loved to garden. She had beautiful roses and gladiolas.

She is survived by her daughter, April McGuire and husband Ray McGuire of Yuba City, CA; her grandson, James Coleman and wife Jessica Coleman of West Valley City, UT; her granddaughter, Yvette Lockridge and husband Darrel Lockridge of West Valley City, UT; great-granddaughters: Justus, Amelia and Gabriella Lockridge of West Valley City, UT; her cousins: Ron and Elsie Cooper of Silverdale, WA; Wanda Clark of Eugene, OR; Shirley McCallum of Columbia Falls, MT; Gladys Hodges of Goldendale, WA; Larry and Sharon Arnold of Creswell, OR; Betty Anderson of Turner, OR; and Cecil and Helen Turner of Halsey, OR.

A celebration of life will be on Sunday, March 2, 10 a.m. at Oak Park Assisted Living, 1400 NE Rocky Ridge Dr.
