Bonnie ‘JEAN’ Matthews Unruh DeBernardi

Passed away peacefully at her home in Lincoln City, Oregon on March 21, 2014. She was born on May 18, 1928 in Roseburg, Oregon to Joseph Shirley Matthews and Edna Harriet Perrin Matthews. She had a brother Arthur “Bill” Matthews. She was married to Fay Unruh in 1961 until his death in 1991 and Donn DeBernardi in 1998 until his death in 2011.

She attended Roseberg High School and Southern Oregon College in Ashland where she received her Associates of Nursing degree. She worked at Provident Hospital and later started the Rehab Unit at Providence Hospital. She lived in Roseburg, Phoenix, Portland and retired in Lincoln City, Oregon. She loved her family, fishing, the ocean, the Trail Blazers and her Sunday Breakfast Group.

She is survived by children: son, Jon and his wife Sandy Unruh, Dan DeBernardi, Dawn DeBernardi Spencer; sister-in-law Carolee Matthews; grandchildren: Jaclyn Unruh, Tysan and Mark McClusky, Dominic DeBernardi, Kathryn Norris and great-grandchildren: Auora McClusky and Henry Norris and numerous nieces, nephews and greats. She is predeceased by her parents, brother Arthur, daughter Deborah McClusky (7/4/95) and husbands Fay (11/21/91) and Donn (2/23/11).

A celebration of life will be held on March 29, 2014 at 2 p.m. in the banquet rooms at Chinook’s Winds Seafood Grill. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Ronald McDonald House, 2620 N. Commercial Avenue, Portland, OR 97227 would be appreciated.
