Royal Clark Nelsen

9/14/47 - 4/9/14

On Wednesday, April 9, 2014 after a severe illness, Royal Nelsen went home to his permanent heavenly address. He has fought the good fight and has now entered into his rest. A country boy at heart, Royal was born and raised in El Dorado Springs, MO. He married his high school sweetheart, Judie Tilford in 1966. After serving in the Marines he attended Ozark Christian College in Joplin, MO. Royal worked in law enforcement in Joplin, MO, and Cottage Grove, OR. Ready for an adventure, he relocated his family of four to the Aleutian Islands and served as Chief of Police and Public Safety Director in Unalaska, AK.

In 1983 Royal moved back to the lower 48, where he began work in Mall Management in Eugene at Valley River Center and later in Eureka, CA. Eager to be closer to his grandchildren Royal and Judie moved back to OR, 10 years ago to start a UPS store in Roseburg. Royal was multi-vocational, always serving Christ in whatever was placed in his hands. He worked for the American Red Cross and the Roseburg Mission while serving as Minister at Glide Church of Christ.

Royal is survived by his adoring wife, Judie; their seven children; 15 grandchildren; in addition to his mother; three sisters and three brothers.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service for Royal will be held in Roseburg; Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Church On-The Rise Nazarene. Should friends desire, the Royal Nelsen Memorial Fund has been established for those wishing to contribute toward his unexpected medical and burial expenses.
