Edna passed away on Tuesday, May 13, 2014, at the age of 90, in Salmon, Idaho. She was born in West Virginia on February 12, 1924, to John and Lizzie Rigsby. She was the fourth born of seven children. Her brothers, Henry and John Clyde and sisters, Fannie, Kate and Beatrice preceded her in death as well as her parents. Edna was also preceded in death by her second husband, John Donovan.
She moved from West Virginia in 1935 to Riddle where she grew up and attended school. She worked for a few years doing “kitchen hair” and for several years as a checker in grocery stores in Riddle and Myrtle Creek. Edna enjoyed working with the public but decided to quit and do home care for her husband John who was confined to a wheelchair after a logging accident.
Mom was a very social person and greeted everyone she knew with a big smile and a hug. Her laughter was infectious. She was a talented seamstress and sewed everything from cheerleading uniforms to prom dresses, bridesmaids and wedding dresses. Another hobby was crochet and she did so until her hands could no longer hold the hook and the yarn. Mom loved to play cards and Yahtzee and had a knack for adding scores before the dice had barely landed. She also enjoyed the slots and bingo at Seven Feathers Casino.
Mom is survived by her sister, Bernice Gallagher; her son, David and wife, Becky Weakley of Salmon, Idaho; son Ronald and wife, Katherine Weakley of Riddle, Oregon; daughter Sherry and husband, Jim Dalzielof Arcata, California. Edna leaves behind nine grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren; plus four step sons, Wayne, Dale, Scott and Mark Donovan. She also leaves behind dear friends and neighbors Mike and Ava Nordyke as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
