Raymond E. Miller

Ray was born 12 July 1912 in Roseburg, Oregon to Edgar and Bertha Miller. He married Regina Steiner in St. Louis, Missouri 3 December 1942. Regina preceded him in death 14 April 1973. Ray remarried to Elsie Charlotte Sacher 12 January 1974 in Sutherlin, Oregon. Charlotte preceded him in death 2 August 2002.

Ray grew up in Winchester and graduated from Wilbur High School. Following graduation he held a number of positions in the Roseburg area, including the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC). In 1941, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps and was stationed 4 years at Scott Field, near Cincinnati, Ohio as a hospital medic (x-ray).

Following Ray’s honourable discharge, he took a position as Manual Arts

Therapist with the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Roseburg, working in leather arts and carving, toy and small appliance repair, embroidery, tool and die making and gardening.

He is a member of the Moose Lodge of Eugene, Elks Lodge of Springfield, and life member of the Good Sam Club. He attended South Salem Church of the Nazarene.

Ray is survived by two children, Barbara Maidment of Cowaramup, Western Australia and Rex Miller of Salem, Oregon; two step-sons, Lance Sacher of Roseburg and Bart Sacher of Eugene; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Ray enjoyed doing things with his hands and was an excellent self-taught carpenter. He also enjoyed bowling, fishing and hunting.

Memorial Service will be 11:00am Saturday, July 12, 2014 at Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service, 605 Commercial St SE, Salem, Oregon 97301. A private interment will be at Roseburg Memorial Gardens, in Roseburg, Oregon.
