Don passed away Sunday, August 3, 2014. He died at home surrounded by his wife and family.
He was born in Seattle, Washington, to Donald and Delores Mac Gregor. Don grew up in Newport, Oregon, and graduated New Port High School in 1972. After high school he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served on nuclear submarines for eight years.
After his service in the Navy he moved back to Newport, Oregon, and worked for Coast Distributors. In March of 1988 he went to work for Roseburg Forest Products at the Dillard Plant. He was a member of the Lumber and Saw Mill Workers Union, Local 2949.
Don loved the outdoors, camping, fishing, and putzing on projects in his shop. He could look at a problem and come up with a great practical solution. Another passion was riding his motorcycle with his friends.
He is survived by his wife, Jill Mac Gregor; children, Teresa Sobel-Canfield, Jared (Careyine) Wiley and Kelly Wiley; sister, Sherry Potter; grandchildren, Hailey, Jessica, Lindsey, Ian, Macy, Hayden and numerous nieces and nephews.
Don was a special guy. He was always thankful, kind and considerate. A wonderful husband; father; and grandfather. He was held in high esteem by all his coworkers and friends. Long time friends, Bill Turnbull, Lloyd Brewer, and Mike Brochu were important to him as well his pets, Sparky and Luna.
Service will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Taylor’s Mortuary in Winston, Oregon. A barbeque to follow at 872 Lawson Bar Road (Exit 102, I-5), Myrtle Creek, Canyonville. Donations in his honor can be made to the Days Creek Ladies Aide.
