Richard Joseph Palomares went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 6, 2014, at the age of 84. Richard was born on April 20, 1930, in Pomona, California, to Frank and Vera Palomares. Shortly thereafter his family settled in Anaheim, California. Richard joined the U.S. Navy after graduating from Anaheim High School. After his discharge in 1950, Richard had several different jobs including being part owner of an automotive repair shop. In 1958 he joined the Anaheim Fire Department as a fireman. He found this was a job that he loved and held it for 10 years. In 1961 Richard married Lorraine Therrien, and became an instant father to three young girls. The following year, on May 26, 1962, their son, Mark, was born. In 1970 the family moved to Sutherlin, Oregon. Not long after he landed a job working for Douglas Electric, where he worked until he retired in 1994. Richard had a passion for automobiles. He owned and collected many throughout the years, thus resulting in many friends made and many stories told. Richard is survived by his son Mark Palomares, and daughter-in-law, Rena Palomares, of Sutherlin; two grandsons, Cody and Caleb Needles; three great-grandchildren, Taylor, Caiden and Cuyler Needles, all of Roseburg; three stepdaughters, Kathy Blackburn, Laura and Linda Brush, all of California; and a sister, Betty Neal of Perris, California. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
