Larry George

Larry went home to heaven peacefully on July 24, 2012 after a ten year battle with cancer.

Larry was born on January 14, 1948 in Calexico, California to Sherman and Mildred George. The family moved between California and Oregon for most of Larry's younger years. Larry always considered Oregon home and lived here all of his adult life.

Larry joined the Navy at 17 and was honorably discharged at the age of 21 after serving on the USS Regulus in and off the coast of Viet Nam.

Larry moved to Douglas County in 1971 and worked for Roseburg Forest Products, Hanna Nickel Mining Co. and Roseburg Refrigeration before starting his own business, George's Heating and Air Conditioning. Larry loved owning his own business and actively worked until two years ago when illness forced him to retire.

Larry loved hunting, fishing, and camping with his family and especially the huge family hunting camps at Blue Bluffs. The campfire stories were always plentiful and everyone was always welcome.

Larry was preceded in death by his father, mother and older brother Eddie, who died in Vietnam. He is survived by Debbie George, his wife of 38 years; his three children, Annette, Roy and Holly; and three grandsons, Brian, Stephen and Matthew. Also, his brothers and sisters, Diane, Debbie, Wayne, Terry and Randy.

Larry was greatly loved and will be sorely missed by all who knew him. Campfire stories will still be plentiful, if bitter sweet and everyone will always be welcome.

Services will be held on Sunday, August 5 at 1 p.m. at Tri-City Baptist Church.
