Karen Glavinic passed away December 8, 2012 after a courageous year-long battle against multiple myeloma cancer. She was 54 years young.
Born November 21, 1958 in Roseburg, she was a high school and college athlete, earning many championships in swimming. She attended Gresham High School in Portland and graduated from Linfield College in McMinnville.
Karen moved to Alaska in 1983 and worked for several years at the Anchorage Senior Center. After her children were born, she volunteered at Denali Montessori School, where she later became a Teacher Assistant working with kindergarten students. She also taught in the school’s reading program, as well as before- and after-school computer and cooking classes.
Her friends and family remember her as a loving, caring, and inspirational woman whose smile could light up a whole room.
She was preceded in death by her father-in-law, Edward Glavinic Sr.; nephew Zachary Season; grandnephew Deagan Season; and her two cherished cats, Toby and Jack.
She is survived by her husband, Edward; sons Tonei and Robert; parents Carol Burgin and John Season; brother Bob (Kathy) Season; sisters Pam Season and Janet (Derrick) Graham; mother-in-law Sarah; three nephews, one niece, and two grandnephews; and many special friends including hundreds of students that she considered her “kids”.
In lieu of flowers, give your children a hug and make a donation to the Denali School PTA (denalischool.org).
