Barbara Lee Lebengood

Died peacefully with her family surrounding her on January 2, 2013. Barbara was born on June 14, 1932 in Medford, Oregon. She spent her early childhood on the Rogue River, and attended school in Lake Oswego and Portland, Oregon. She graduated from Marshfield High School in Coos Bay, Oregon, in 1950.

Barbara was married to the love of her life, Bill, for 59 years. After living in Coos Bay, they and their two young children set out in 1968 on an adventure to live on a ranch in Montana. After one winter in below 0 temperatures they decided to go into business for themselves and purchased the Myrtle Creek Dairy Queen in June, 1969. Barbara managed the Dairy Queen until her retirement in 1994.

Barbara was an accomplished seamstress and gardener. She sewed her own wedding dress and her daughter’s clothes all through school. She maintained a beautiful yard on the family’s seven acres. Never one to avoid a challenge, she took up downhill skiing at age 51 and went parasailing at age 60.

Barbara enjoyed art and spending vacations in Mexico with her husband and extended family. Her favorite spot was the balcony of Ochas Cascadas in Puerta Vallarta.

Barbara is survived by her husband, Bill; her brother and his wife, Gary and Ginny Fahl; her three children and their spouses, Jill and Steve Schultz of Klamath Falls, Tom and Susan (Banducci) Lebengood of Myrtle Creek, and Scott and Mistie (Coleman) Lebengood of Albany. She was the grandmother of eight, Matt Torres, Nate Torres, Casey Torres, Lane Lebengood, Carly Lebengood, Nick Lebengood, Allison Lebengood and Savannah Lebengood and one great-grandchild, Kaiden Torres.

She will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife and mother, and a dedicated business woman.

Graveside services are scheduled at the Myrtle Creek cemetery on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at 1:00. Those wishing to share stories and memories are encouraged to visit with the family during an open house following the service at the family home.
