Born on March 22, 1953 in Norton Air Force Base in California and passed away on January 16, 2013. Doug lived in Roseburg Oregon since 1962. He graduated from Roseburg High in 1971. He married Frances Simper in 2007. Doug was in both the Air Force and the Army and retired after 20 years of serving his country. While in service Doug received the following medals; good conduct, South West Asia service, Saudi Arabia Kuwait Liberation, National Defense service, Army Commendation, Air Force Good Conduct, Bronze Star, Vietnam Campaign, Army Achievement, and Army Meritorious Service. Doug served over seas in Vietnam, Thailand, Guam, Germany, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. Doug was in Vietnam, Desert Shield, and Desert Storm. Doug also received the Distinguished Service Award for computerizing Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Doug was a part of the VFW and enjoyed fishing. He leaves behind his wife Frances Simper of Roseburg; his mother Dolores and step-father Theodore Thompson of Roseburg; step-daughter Renee’ Phillips of CA; step-son Ben Maxwell of Roseburg; sister Jean Simper of Roseburg; step-sisters, Candice Jewell and Alyce Ann Kennaday, both of Roseburg; brother Scott and Debra Simper of Roseburg; and nieces, Melissa Olson and Kristy Curry; and nephew Robert S. Koenig; step nieces and nephews, Ann, Brain, Laura, Christopher, Landyn, Gabriel, and Hallie. Graveside Service will be at Roseburg National Cemetery on Friday January 25, 2013 at 1 p.m. and a Memorial Service will follow at the Roseburg VFW at 1127 Walnut St. Roseburg, OR. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Roseburg V.F.W. Post 2468.
