Dorleen went home to be with the Lord on January 24, 2013, after a short illness, surrounded by her family. She was one of the kindest most giving individuals you could know and it showed by how many friends and relatives came to visit her during her final weeks. Dorleen was born July 14, 1943 in Ventura, CA to parents Lee and Elsie (Waldell) Hildreth. She was the youngest of five children. The family moved to Gold Beach, OR, where she was raised. She graduated from Gold Beach High School in 1962 and recently enjoyed her fifty-year reunion. Dorleen married her first husband, Donald Sthen in 1962 and moved to Roseburg, OR. She attended Roseburg Beauty College and worked as a beautician until 1966 when she had her first child. In 1967 she had her second child, and spent time doing hair wigs to earn extra money, allowing her to be a stay at home mom. Dorleen later divorced and married her second husband, rancher Ben Dawson Jr. in 1977. Becoming a rancher’s wife involved working with livestock, and doctoring sick animals. This was a love for her, because she originally wanted to be a vet. She had two more children in 1978 and 1979, which kept her busy with school activities, 4-H, FFA, President of the Deer Creek Community Club and member of the grange. Dorleen’s favorite hobbies were tole painting, painting pumpkins, going to garage sales and auctions, collecting antiques and cookie jars. Some of her fondest moments were going on a trip to England with other ranchers, and spending time with her beloved grandchildren. She is survived by her husband Ben; son Bret Sthen (Roseburg); daughter Kelly and Rocker Head (Klamath Falls); son Dan and Breanne Dawson; grandkids: Drew, Carter and Reagan (Roseburg) Loralei, Ellie, Jace and Quinn (Arroyo Grand, CA); son Doug and Lea Dawson; stepdaughter Nancy and Don Cannon (Gold Hill) and step-grandchildren Matt and Mike Debrick and Cody and Lee Sandberg and families; stepdaughter Cathy and George Sandberg (Roseburg); and her sister Shirley and Max Harrison and Dolores and Ron St. Marie and many numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother Sam Hildreth and sister Maxine Schaefer. The family would like to thank Hospice and all her family and friends for their love and support, visits, cards and flowers. Donations can be made in her name to the Douglas County 4H program P.O. Box 1165, Roseburg, OR or to Pine Grove Church in Roseburg, OR. There will be a viewing available Friday, February 1, 2013 from 2-7 p.m. at Pearson’s Funeral Home. Services will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at 12 p.m. at Umpqua Valley Christian School, Formally known as Deer Creek School in the original gymnasium. Following the service there will be a potluck. A food dish is appreciated but not required. At 2:30 p.m. the burial service will take place at Burt Cemetery.
