Marjorie Alice Gilliss was born on September 23, 1923 in Glasco, Kansas in Cloud County to Roy J. Benson and Louise Truey Woolman Benson. Marjorie went to heaven on February 9, 2013. Marjorie was the oldest child and was raised with her three brothers, Ernest Benson, John Benson and Harold Benson. She spent part of her childhood in Simpson and Glasco, Kansas. She moved to Great Bend, Kansas where she graduated from Great Bend High School in 1942. In 1945 Marjorie married Bill Gibson. They had one daughter, Darlene Gibson Bounds. They were later divorced. Then in 1956 she married Joe Gilliss. They had one daughter, Sherry Gilliss Faught. During her lifetime, Marjorie worked as a supermarket meat wrapper and she also owned and operated a restaurant in Swensen, Oregon. She raised her two daughters in Knappa, Westport and Clatskanie, Oregon. She and her husband Joe owned and developed several acres of land just east of Clatskanie, Oregon. Her love for family, especially her grandchildren was most important to her. She also loved to read, crochet, cook and she loved her pets. She loved to go camping and fishing. She and Joe served as campground hosts at Odell Lake in the Oregon Cascades and those were especially good memories for her. Her faith was very important to her and she was a member of the Assembly of God church. Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband Joe, one son, Billy, her parents and her brothers. She is survived by daughters: Darlene Gibson Bounds and her husband; Charles Bounds of Clatskanie, Oregon; Sherry Gilliss Faught and her husband, Daniel Faught of Roseburg, Oregon. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Cindy Pettigrew, Debbie Jennings, Bryce Bounds, Heather Faught, and Brent Faught. Marjorie was also blessed with eight great grandchildren. Private graveside services will be held at Lane Memorial Gardens in Eugene, Oregon is where Marjorie will be laid to rest with the other members of her family.
