Of Myrtle Creek, passed away peacefully the morning of Saturday, February 23, 2013, at the wonderful age of 81. She was born November 4, 1931 in Williamson, West Virginia. Dean, as most family and friends knew her, had a previous marriage and two sons, Roger and Phillip. She married Louis “Bob” Smith on September 5, 1967. She was well known for her great sense of humor and playfulness. She loved going to the casino, to party with the family playing Canasta, in which she was a master! She also really loved Elvis. Though she, like most of us, had only one birthday a year, she would raise her arms in the air singing “It’s my birthday, it’s my birthday” just for us to tell her no it wasn’t and she wasn’t going to get another present. We would all laugh so much. Her legacy to us is how a person can do most anything with a strong enough will; her great sense of humor and laughter; the way she could turn a “down” moment into a happy one and good old fashioned common sense. Thank you Mom for all that you have taught us. She is survived by her husband, friend and companion of 48 years, Louis “Bob” Smith; sister, Betty; son Roger; daughter Louise; many grand and great-grandchildren. There will be a graveside funeral on Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at 11 a.m., conducted by Pastor Kris Tripp at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Oakland, Oregon. Flowers can be arranged through Forever Flowers of Winston, 541-679-9065, in care of Taylor’s Family Chapel, 245 S.W. Main Street, Winston, Oregon, 97496, and 541-679-6983.
