Age 70, passed away in his home in Tiller, Oregon, on Saturday, February 23, 2013. Howard was a Christian, never missed an opportunity to say “I Love You” and told his family that he knew where he was going. Even in his illness he could express his thoughts and retained his sense of humor. He was predeceased by his parents Gerald Howard and Corene Dillinger Hemphill of Coos Bay and Portland, Oregon. He is survived by his beloved wife, of 49 years Sally; daughter, Laura (Hemphill) Smith and her husband Monte of Roseburg, Oregon; son, Keven Wayne Hemphill and his wife Lisa of Days Creek, Oregon; brothers: Raymond A. Hemphill and his wife Jean of New Bern, NC; Kenneth Hemphill of Portland, Oregon; four grandchildren: Levi Hemphill, Kelsey (Hemphill) Ramos, Erin Hemphill and Cassidy Smith; also four great-grandchildren. There is peace, knowing Howard knew his heavenly Father. The fear of death can only be dealt with through the Peace of God. We enter the threshold to eternal life, where family and dear friends await and welcome us. Howard is just beyond our sight. He will be missed and we look forward to seeing him again. Appreciation and gratitude is expressed to Howard’s Doctors and to Hospice for their support and care of Howard during his battle with cancer
