Age 84, of Roseburg, Oregon, passed away from Leukemia on March 7, 2013. She was born on April 19, 1928, in Los Angeles CA, to Phillip Iver Hagen and Juanita (Childs) Hagen. She was the oldest of four children. Phillis graduated from Franklin High School in Highland Park, California, in 1946. She met Joseph I. Lehning Jr. in 1947, while he was stationed in the Navy at Long Beach, CA. They were married in Pasadena, CA, on April 17, 1948. After raising their three children, she and her husband moved to Roseburg after retirement in 1992. Phillis was a “Classy Lady” who loved tea parties. She was a wonderful mother, devoted daughter, great sister, caring grandmother and great grandmother, and a loving wife for over 64 years. She was a wonderful cook, loved the outdoors, camping, and an avid reader and loved to learn new things. Her hobbies included needlepoint and sewing. She was preceded in death by her brother, Carl Iver Hagen; and her parents, Phillip and Juanita Hagen. She is survived by her husband, Joseph Lehning Jr.; daughters: Debra DeNino, and Sharol Lankert; son, Joseph I. Lehning III; sisters: JoAnne Slayton and Glendora Hagen; sister-in-law, Barbra Hagen;and eight grandsons; Brian, Gilman, Jamon, Joseph IV, Casey, Nino, Ezra, Stephen, and 10 great-grandchildren. She died peacefully and gracefully with her daughters and sister Glendora by her side. A special thank you to her hospice nurses, Carrie Lawson, Sally Brown, Jackie Jacobs and her sister Glendora for the loving care she received. A celebration of life will be held at Dino’s Ristorante, 404 SE Jackson St. Downtown Roseburg, on Sunday, April 21, 2013, at 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to Leukemia research.
