Age 61, of Glide, Oregon, passed away on Tuesday, April 2, 2013, after a lengthy battle with cancer. He died in the home he built, surrounded by family and friends. The son of Rudolph (Rudy) and Beatrice (Bea) Engelbrecht, Bruce grew up in Glide, Oregon. He became an Amateur Radio Operator at the age of 12, which led to a life-long career in electronics and communications. Bruce graduated from Glide High School in 1969 and attended OTI (now OIT) in Klamath Falls. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1972, where he continued learning about electronics and working with radios. Bruce married Dee Silitinpiyak in February, of 1986. Their only child, Ryan, was born in November of 1986. In 1986, before Ryan was born, Bruce survived a bout with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. When Bruce was most recently diagnosed with cancer, he had already been a Christian for many years. Even so, his faith in Jesus grew stronger each day as he endured his pain and suffering with courage and grace. Bruce was a friend to many and an inspiration to all. He will be greatly missed by those who loved him. Bruce was preceded in death by his father. He is survived by his wife; son; mother; one sister, Gail Fry; and a niece, Vicki Ash and husband Chad and their twin sons; sister-in-laws: Linda and husband George;Sai and husband Chin; Joyce; Ron; and many other loving family and friends. The family wishes to extend special thanks to Michael O’Neil, M.D. a caring doctor and friend for 27 years, and to his marvelous staff; and to Keith Cyphert of Mercy Hospice, who became a special friend to Bruce and the family during Bruce’s final illness. A memorial service will be held at North Umpqua Bible Fellowship on Saturday, April 20, 2013, at 1 p.m. followed by a light lunch.
