Prep Roundup: Roseburg girls win triangular track meet

MEDFORD — The Roseburg girls had five individual winners and finished first in the 4x400-meter relay as they won a triangular track and field meet with North Medford and Eagle Point on Wednesday at Bowerman Field.

The Indians compiled 86 points, followed by the Black Tornado (65) and Eagles (25). North Medford won the boys’ meet with 101 points, outpointing Roseburg (55) and E.P. (25).

Picking up victories for the RHS girls were Amanda Allen in the 400 (1:03.08), Mahala Norris in the 800 (2:25.34), Jenna Anderson in the 1,500 (5:12.0), Corinne Walters in the 100 hurdles (18.27) and Gabrielle Kearney in the shot put (35-3). The 4x400 quartet of Allen, Kara Krnacik, Kim Solberg and Norris was clocked in 4:12.39.

Roseburg senior Jason Bergold turned in one of the top marks of the meet, clearing a personal best 13-9 to win the pole vault. The Tribe also got wins from Kenny Freeman in the 400 (52.61), Sean Bowden in the 300 hurdles (43.61), and the 4x400 relay of Mitchell Kilkenny, Brett Reed, Arlo Willhoft and Bryan Bergold (3:37.56).

OAKRIDGE — The visiting Warriors rebounded from a 10-error performance in a loss at Glendale Tuesday, playing errorless ball in a shutout of the host Warriors in five innings in District 2 play.

Alley Burruss went 3-for-3 with five RBIs, Bella Mast was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs and Abby Dooley 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs for North Douglas (9-6, 8-5 District 2). Kelcee Frieze pitched a three-hitter, striking out three and walking one.

MONROE — The league-leading Eagles improved to 12-1 in District 2 play and 15-3 on the season with a five-inning District 2 win over the Dragons.

Tabitha Shaw went 2-for-3 with a home run, double and five RBIs. Brianne Joslyn was 3-for-5 with a double and Emily Wickman 2-for-3. Monroe’s pitchers issued 22 walks.

OAKLAND — The Warriors rallied from a 3-1 deficit with eight runs in the fifth and sixth innings and defeated the Oakers.

Jordan Bailey went 4-for-4 with two doubles for the Oakers, who committed six errors. Angus Swan was 2-for-2. Tee Ivie had three hits in four at-bats for Oakridge.

Huckins had three runs and three RBIs, including a two-run homer in the second inning, as North Douglas improved to 9-6 on the season.

EUGENE — With their No. 1 singles and doubles players left at home, most Indians moved up a slot in competition but still dominated the Southwest Conference matchup.

Alec Johnson stepped up to take on Sheldon’s top singles player, Blake Nelson, and defeated him 6-3, 6-4. Zach Carter, Dalton Roman and Logan Neptune also won their matches in straight sets.

The Indians didn’t drop a set in doubles play either. Nick Foley and Nate Hansen won the No. 1 matchup against Johnathan Kim and Luke Courey, 6-2, 6-4.

Indians second at Phoenix Invitational

MEDFORD — Roseburg senior Garrett Ramsey shot a 3-over-par 75 to place fifth individually and the Indians were second out of 14 teams in the Phoenix Invitational at Centennial Golf Club.

Zach Wilson had the Indians’ second-best score with a 78. Tyler Franke matched that effort to pace the Sutherlin Bulldogs, who finished eighth collectively.

St. Mary’s won the team title and Rogue River’s Kevin Murphy shot a 3-under 69 to capture medalist honors.

The Indians continued their dominance in the South League, improving to 7-0 with a rout of the Axemen at Finlay Field.

Senior Jaclyn Humphry scored nine goals in as many attempts for Roseburg. Madeleine West chipped in six goals and three assists, Tristen Jones three goals, Kalina Larecy two goals and Camilla Ball, Debra Massey, Harlie Johnson and Graciela Garcia one goal apiece.

Goalkeeper Claire Delacruz made seven saves.

“When we’re playing well, I feel there’s not a team in the league that can stay with us,” said RHS coach Savannah McClendon. “I’m surprised with how fast our offense is.”

Glide teams place first in home events

GLIDE — The Glide boys and girls each picked up wins in small-school meets at the Glide track.

Winning events for the Wildcat girls were Savanah Espinosa in the 400 (1:06.68), Kali Vickery in the 800 (2:41.16), Carlea Bollinger in the 1,500 (5:44.74), Madison Gladding in the 100 hurdles (17.35), Shelby Thompson in the 300 hurdles (49.97), and the 4x100 relay team of Gladding, Vickery, Kaitlyn Vian and Thompson (53.86).

The Glide boys got wins from Shawn Fitzpatrick in the 200 (23.65), Jace Hopkins in the 400 (55.80), Devin Sheldon in the 3,000 (11:11.15), Will Mayne in the pole vault (11-0) and the 4x100 relay of John Black, Billy Coffland, Fitzpatrick and Tom DeBell (47.42).

Bulldogs, Hornets stand out in dual

SUTHERLIN — Senior Christina MacDonald of Sutherlin won all three throwing events, including a 41-7 mark in the shot put. She also threw 124-9 in the javelin and 92-2 in the discus.

Sutherlin’s Ricki Mock won the girls long jump (13-7) and 200 (28.30), and ran a leg on the first-place 4x100 relay (56.66). Whitney Lindsey of Camas Valley won the high jump (4-6) and 800 (2:43.24).

In the boys’ meet, C.V.’s Brad Dancer won the 800 (2:18.75) and 3,000 (10:41.84). Keith Young of Sutherlin captured the 100 (11.19) and 200 (24.62), while Theran Hunt of C.V. won the javelin (156-5) and ran legs on the victorious 4x100 (45.24) and 4x400 (3:57.96) relays.

INDIAN HUDDLE

Baseball and golf are the featured sports at Friday’s Roseburg Indian Huddle luncheon, scheduled for noon at Abby’s Pizza on NE Stephens St.

Head baseball coach Troy Thompson will bring seniors Cody Bassett and Zach Wyscaver. Girls golf coach Kevin Hunt will be joined by senior Emily Ott and junior Kiana Cash, while boys golf coach Chad Smith will speak along with seniors Kai Seely and Zach Wilson.
