Mary Ellen Camp

January 18, 1925 - April 16, 2013

Mary Ellen (Hansen) Camp was born January 18, 1925 at Bonita, California to John R. and Leona (Williams) Hansen.

She raised her family in Grants Pass, Oregon. She had a great love for her family and expressed it in many ways. She was an expert seamstress and Mary made untold numbers of children’s jackets and donated them to a variety of places, most recently to the Lebanon Police Department to be handed out. She made many, many small quilts and appliquéd lap robes for donation. She also did hand knitting and made innumerable baby sets that she donated to Hope Pregnancy Center in Roseburg when she lived there and to Shop With A Cop in Lebanon.

She loved the great outdoors, camping and fishing. She lived in a cabin in the wilderness area of the Rogue River where she cooked and canned, using a wood stove. She had lived in the Roseburg area for 20 years before moving to Albany.

Music was a lifelong interest. Mary played the piano, flute, clarinet, saxophone, guitar, accordion, and other musical instruments. Her children always said that if it was intended for making music she could make music on it, a fact she modestly denied.

Mary is survived by her children: Chrystine Hulshof of Albany; Nancy Chlarson of Lebanon; and Russell Camp of Grants Pass, Oregon; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; and sisters: Joan Stevens of Roseburg; and Lois Chapman of Winlock, Washington.

A private family gathering will be held at a later date and the family suggests in lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Samaritan Evergreen Hospice in care of Fisher Funeral Home, 306 Washington St. SW, Albany, Oregon 97321. (
