Age 88, of Seaside, Oregon, succumbed to cancer on Monday, April 1, 2013, with his family at his side. He was born December 20, 1924 to William H and Olive V. Armstrong in Buffalo NY. He married Joyce L. Harvey on June 14, 1947 in Owego, NY; In January 1949 they moved to Portland, Oregon. He worked for MaBell, Roseburg Lumber, and Umpqua Dairy, where he retired from in 1985 as a truck driver. Allen was a WWII Veteran, serving in the Army from 1941-1943 in the South Pacific. He is survived by his daughters: Kathy (Monic Hutchins) Adams , of Seaside; Nancy (Greg) Hesseltine of Roseburg; grandchildren: Rick (Mary) Adams; Randy(Wendy) Adams; Andrew (Genie) Adams, all from the Astoria area; Michelle (Leif) Mortchalin, of Grants Pass; Kara Hesseltine of Roseburg; Jessica (JD) Osborn, of Harrisburg; great-grandchildren: Jasmine Adams of Astoria; Brittany Young, of St . Robert Missouri; Samantha Young of Roseburg; JayDee Osborn, of Harrisburg; great-great-granddaughter, Brylee Young, of Roseburg; brother, Chuck (Charlotte) Armstrong; sisters: Ethel Armstrong; Hazel (Larry) VanSusan; Phyliss (Victor) Alexander; and many nieces and nephews all from NY State. His proceeded in death by parents William and Olive; his wife, Joyce; mother-in-law, Louise Bugbee; brothers: Jack; Porter; Harold; and Howard; sisters: Mary; Ruth; Roberta. A private family and friend’s internment will be at St.Georges Episopal Church in Roseburg, Oregon, on June 8, 2013. Cremation arrangements were handled by Caldwell’s Luce-Layton of Astoria. In lieu of flowers and church service at Allen’s request please make donation to a local American Cancer Society Chapter or Charity of your Choice.
