William (Bill) Robert Canfield

Age 88, of Roseburg, Oregon, died as the result of an automobile accident on Friday, June 7, 2013 in Roseburg, OR. He was born March 11, 1925 in Springfield, IL, the son of Walter and Anabelle (McGuire) Canfield. He married Mary June Geisler and to this union nine children were born. Later in life he married Carole Sue Korn.

Bill graduated from Springfield High School and went on to graduate from Valparaiso University in Indiana in broadcasting, a field in which he worked for several years in San Diego, where his children were born. Bill went on to receive a master degree in sociology from San Diego State University. He and Carole were docents at the Wildlife Safari Park, and patrons of Douglas County Museum of Natural and Cultural History. He was in the Army during WWII and had a love of airplanes. He enjoyed photography as a hobby and documented his growing family activities.

Bill is survived by his three siblings: Mary, Dick and Jim; wife, Carole; former wife, Mary June; seven children: Kathy, Donald, JoAnn, David, Diane, Patrick and Janet; two stepchildren: Dana and Kendra; and a number of grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two children: Bill Jr. and Richard; two brothers: Joseph and Jack.
