Went home to be with the Lord in the comfort of his home on Friday, June 28, 2013. Mel was born in Estacada, OR, on November 29, 1934, to Walter and Sarah Cox. He was a beloved husband, father and friend. He loved the outdoors; fishing, hunting, gardening and camping were among his favorite things. He also attended Church on the Rise. Because of his love for the great outdoors he worked in the logging profession before working for International Paper. He made Roseburg, his home in the early 70’s and he owned/operated the Lookingglass Shake Mill. Mel then continued logging throughout his retirement. He was also a Veteran of the Navy.
He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Joseph Cox. He is survived by his wife, the love of his life of 57 years, Carlotta Cox; sister, Carol McCaffrey; son, Alvin(Lupe) Cox; daughters: Claudine(Stuart)Chrupalo; Annette(Curt)Shoults; Melva(Craig)Smith; and numerous grandchildren. We love you and thank you for a life well lived!
