Ellen, age 83, passed away on Sunday, June 23, 2013 in Roseburg, OR. She was born May 2, 1930 to George and Bernice Haughton, one of seven children. She was born at home on the homestead in Norway, OR. She was a long time resident of the Roseburg/Sutherlin area.
Ellen was a very hard worker all of her life working at various occupations. She worked at Roseburg Lumber Co. for 15 years, housekeeper and caregiver for several years and finally in 2007 she retired from working at Taco Time. People didn’t always know her name but they would always know her as the smiling, friendly cashier from Taco Time.
She enjoyed crocheting and embroidery and made lots of beautiful things for her daughter and all of her nieces. She enjoyed camping, fishing, traveling, playing cards but most of all enjoyed flower gardening. In 2003 she moved to the Silver Glen Community Mobile Park and made so many very good friends. There she played bingo and cards at least every Friday with her neighbors if not on more days. She has a dog, PeeWee, she would walk twice a day and at first she became the “Lady with the Little Pomeranian Dog” but it wouldn’t take long and everyone would know her name too. She enjoyed her church family at the Calapooia Free Methodist Church in Sutherlin. She especially enjoyed being a member of the church’s “Recycled Teens” club and going on various outings every month.
She is survived by her daughter, Darise Prince and son-in-law Ron Cunningham; sisters: Dorothy Parrish; Ruth Martin (Clayton); nieces: Kay Conley; Toni Rapp; Barbara Green; and Bonnie Smith plus her extended family; Kim and Lenny Humphry and their children; Chelsie and Joshua. She also adored her beloved dog, PeeWee. She will be greatly missed by all that knew her. Rest easy now, mom, I’ll always love you.
A Celebration of her life will be on Thursday, July 11, 2013 at 1 p.m. at the Calapooia Free Methodist Church in Sutherlin, OR.
