Sally Evans

Was born to Frank and Isabel Escalante in the San Juaqin Valley in southern CA on January 11, 1929. She has been a resident of Drain since 1953 when she married “Jiggs” Clyde Evans, the love of her life, and they returned to his hometown. They met in Monterey, CA while Dad was in the Army, and they briefly lived in Ft. Lewis, WA before returning to Drain to raise five daughters: Tina, Sunday, Claudia, Amber and Martha. Mom went to be with the Lord on July 7, 2013.

They built a home on Sand Creek road and added to it as the family size increased. Mom was a stay-at-home Mom until later in our lives when she and Dad started the Evans Shop, where they sold clothing and repaired shoes.

Once the Evans Shop closed, they spent many weekends and weeks rough camping in Southeastern Oregon exploring the Steens, the Alvord Desert, Hole in the Ground, Anna Reservoir, and various hot springs, enjoying the quiet and openness of the desert and the animals. They most often set up their cots under an awning attached to the little 4 wheel drive pickup, or found an open building to stay warm for the night.

Her hobbies included gardening, her blueberry farm, and most of all she enjoyed and loved her family.

She is survived by five daughters: Tina Lopez of Creswell, OR; Sunday and Jim Alberding of Sutherlin, OR; Claudia and Don Moore of Lakeview, OR; Amber and Rod Painter of Eugene, OR; and Marty and Rob Cox of Drain, OR. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren: Jeffery and Sarah Bickford; Brian and Sarah Bickford; Melissa and Cary Swain; Amanda Heimbach; Kristen Moore; Christy and Rory Simpson; Sally Moore; and Jessica and Adam Rasmussen; and by great-grandchildren: Payton, Emmerson and Callyn Bickford; Samantha and Alexander Bickford; Liam Heimbach; Evelyn and Declan Simpson; and Tyler and Cooper Rasmussen. There are also many more extended grandchildren and great-grandchildren. There were never any limits to the love that Mom had for them all.

Mom will be remembered for her heart that was full of genuine love for all. She was not only kind, she was generous to all she met. She will be missed dearly.

A Graveside service will be held at East Drain City Cemetery on Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at 11:00 a.m.

Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel in charge of arrangements.
