Roseburg couple in critical condition after motorcycle crash near Toketee

A Roseburg couple seriously injured Saturday evening in a motorcycle crash on Highway 138 East at Milepost 56 were in critical condition today in a Portland hospital, officials said.

Kenneth Gene Minshew, 57, was driving the motorcycle west near Toketee Falls School House Road when he drifted off the highway at about 7:50 p.m., according to Oregon State Police.

The motorcycle hit a tree stump in the brush, and Minshew’s wife, Linda Helen Minshew, 62, was thrown from the motorcycle and landed in brush along the highway, troopers said.

Kenneth Minshew and the motorcycle plunged nearly 100 feet down a steep cliff and landed on a small ledge, troopers said.

He was rescued from the cliff with the help of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office steep-angle rescue team.

The Minshews were flown by air ambulance to Rogue Valley Medical Center in Medford and were transferred to Oregon Health & Science University.
