Age 98 passed away in Kirkland, Washington, on June 15, 2013. Mim was born to Oscar W. and Agda E. (Lundberg) Nelson at home in Elgarose (outside Roseburg) Oregon, on March 12, 1915. She was one of eight children. The family moved to Roseburg in 1929. Mim graduated from Roseburg High School in 1933. Mim was a hard worker with an adventurous spirit.
Mim married E. A. Ward and had two children, they later divorced. She married Raymond A Prouty on June 18, 1949 and had three more children. In 1951 Ray and Mildred opened a Coast-To-Coast Store in Shelton, Washington, which they ran for 26 years.
Mim was a passionate gardener, growing a huge garden every year and preserving the fruits of her
labors. She loved fishing, clamming, hunting, hiking and boating.
Mim loved to travel. She cruised to the Caribbean, thru the Panama Canal and to Alaska. She hiked across the Olympics twice, made three trips to Sweden to visit extended family, traveled to The four Corners, Carlsbad Caverns, Crescent Lake and all over Washington State.
In 2009 Mim went to live at Aegis Of Redmond, Washington. The staffs at Aegis and Evergreen
Hospice gave her wonderful care in her time of need.
Mildred belonged to Ruby Rebecca Lodge in Shelton, Washington, she held all the offices, holding some offices twice. She was a member of the Navy Mothers during the Vietnam era. Belonged to the Shelton Garden Club after retirement. Mim was very active in the United Methodist Church of Shelton for many years.
Mildred is survived by her sons; Lloyd E. Prouty and Raymond L. Prouty of Shelton,WA, her daughters: Margaret L.”Peg” Heinitz of Snohomish, WA.; and Jean Ann Kincaid of Redmond, WA, a brother, Donald R. Nelson of Tucson, AZ; a sister, Marian K. Adams of Lebanon, OR.; 14
grandchildren; nine great- grand children; three great-great grandchildren; many nieces; nephews;
and cousins (some in Sweden). Mim was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond A. Prouty; son, Keith I. Prouty of Shelton,WA; parents, Oscar W. and Agda E. Nelson; brothers: Lloyd O. Nelson; Ivar H. Nelson; Frank E. “Ed” Nelson; Lester H “Bud” Nelson;and a sister, May E. Hall, all had resided in Roseburg,OR.
Mim (Mom) was wonderful lady who lived life to the fullest, her family misses her greatly.
A Celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 20, 2013 from 1 to 4 p.m. at The Colonial House, 222 West Pine St, Shelton, Washington.
