Mildred Elizabeth Austen Churchill

Passed away on Saturday, July 27, 2013 at the age of 98 at her home in Sutherlin, Oregon. She was born on November 4, 1914, in Vancouver B.C. to Frank R. and Anna D. Austen. She moved to Portland, Oregon when she was 12 years old and became a U.S. Citizen at the age of 55 years.

She became a teacher at the age of 18 and once a teacher always a teacher not only at schools, but teaching swimming lessons, cooking , canning and years of Sunday School and bible school and kids space.

She loved to read and flowers. She provided her church with flowers for years. She also loved her little dog Abby, who was beside her to the end.

She married the love of her life Emmitt Churchill on October 27, 1938 who preceded her in death in 1993. She was survived by one sister-in-law, Anita Austen, of West Linn, OR; three children: Kay Jacobs; Donna d’Abling; Don Churchill and spouses; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great- grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, August 17, 2013 at 11:30 a.m. at Oakland Community Presbyterian Church with Pastor, Kathleen Brinegar affricating. Private interment will be held at Cedar Hill cemetery in Oakland, OR. Those who wish may make donations in Mildred’s memory to Oakland Community Presbyterian Church memorial fund. These donations may be left at the services or mailed to P.O. Box 359, Oakland, OR, 97462.
