Age 84, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, September 11, 2013. She was born Anna Mary Deting on October 13, 1928 in Balta, North Dakota, to Matt and Mary Deting. She grew up working hard on a farm, and married the love of her life Edward Sauter on June 28, 1948 in Fessenden, North Dakota, moving their small family to Roseburg in 1964.
Anna was a waitress for 57 years, working at local establishments such as the Wagon Wheel, Silver Nook, The Oak Cupboard, and Mr & Mrs M’s. She was featured in an article in the News Review in 1986 about how much she loved her job. She never knew a stranger and was a friend to everyone, spending her days filling cups with both coffee and humor. Even after she retired, she greatly missed waiting tables and her regular customers.
Anna and her husband enjoyed making trips back to visit family in North Dakota, camping and fishing at the Oregon Coast. In her later years, she enjoyed spending time with her family and crocheting gifts for everyone. She was a devout member of St. Joseph Church in Roseburg.
Anna was preceded in death by her husband, Edward in 1994. She is survived by her children: David (Teresa); Debbiee(Gerald) and Dorinda (Tony) all of Roseburg. She is also survived by numerous brothers and sisters; grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will miss her immensely.
