Passed away Saturday, October 26, 2013. She was born at home to Ray and Lavada Ballard November 13, 1929 in Henryetta, Oklahoma. The family moved to Hutchinson Kansas when she was five. She married William K. Johnson October 7, 1946 in Andolusia, Alabama, where he was stationed with the military. In 1951 they visited Oregon and fell in love with the countryside, two years later they moved from Kansas to the great Northwest. Finding the perfect spot overlooking the South Umpqua River in Canyonville, Maco and Keith built their home and life, raising their two daughters in a neighborhood of dear friends.
Maco was an involved community member and a great debater especially when it came to political discussion. As an avid reader and writer, Maco had a passion for both gaining and sharing knowledge. She loved playing Bridge and at her height was considered one of the top duplicate bridge players in the nation. Family, friends and children were a priority to Maco and she always made time for visiting, tutoring, great meals, laughter and fun, lots of fun.
Maco is preceded in death by her husband, William Keith Johnson; brother, Lyle Ballard and sister, Virna Dunn. She leaves daughters: Janice Richardson and Kelly Beach; son-in-law, Mickey Beach; sisters: Lottie Mumford; AvNell Mayfield; brother, Aubrey Ballard; sisters-in-law, Pat Ballard; Shirley Ballard; Celia Beal; brother-in-law, Herb Beal; grandchildren, Jeremy and Julie Richardson; Kirsten and Matt Ringen; Deirdre and Keith Beach; and great-grandchildren, Kera and Cameron Richardson; Nathan , Taylor , Alea Ringen; Markus Beach; Kaya and Jadon Ringen.
Maco will be missed by all. A special thanks to the staff of Manor House for the caring support they gave Maco with her fight with Alzheimer’s. A celebration of her life will be held at the Beach residence November 24, 2013 at 1 P.M., Please join us, 541-733-5139 for more information.
