An investigation by a Douglas County sheriff’s deputy on patrol Saturday led to the recovery of a stolen car and the arrest of two people.
The deputy checked the license plates of a 2003 Dodge Intrepid at the Pilot Truck Stop in the 800 block of John Long Road and learned the plates belonged on a different vehicle, according to the sheriff’s office.
Records also showed that Dodge was reported stolen that morning in Myrtle Creek, with Michael Wayne Batson, 37, of Myrtle Creek, and Suzette Marie Batson, 47, of Roseburg considered suspects.
Michael Batson and Suzette Batson were with the car and were arrested, deputies said. It was unclear their relationship to each other.
Michael Batson was arrested on suspicion of possession of a stolen vehicle, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, theft by receiving and possession of heroin. He was held today in the Douglas County Jail in lieu of $200,000 bail.
Suzette Batson was arrested on suspicion of possession of a stolen vehicle, giving false information to a police officer, theft by receiving and a warrant for contempt of court. She was held today in lieu of $56,250 bail.
