Letter: Some presidents have not stood up to Russian aggression

Who blinked, who didn’t?

As the Fox TV-sponsored “talking heads” accuse our president of being everything from feckless to unmanly, several questions come to mind concerning the Ukrainian issue.

First, what U.S. interest is being threatened in this Russian-Ukrainian dispute?

Second, this president successfully ordered the elimination of both bin Laden and Gaddafi, which qualifies for the manhood category.

Finally, many right-wing critics fail to realize that during the past 70 years, it has been Republican presidents who have blinked when it came to opposing Russian aggression. There was Hungary in 1956 (Eisenhower); Czechoslovakia in 1968 (Nixon); and the Russian invasion of the Georgian Republic in 2008 (G.W. Bush).

I want to thank President Obama for thinking and using diplomacy, not just reacting!
