Letter: Local involvement in Chamber recognized

Freeman has participated

I wholeheartedly agree with the Public Forum comments headlined “Add Freeman to commissioners” in The News-Review’s Sunday, March 16 issue. Several years ago, a majority of members of the Myrtle Creek/TriCity Area Chamber of Commerce voted not to take an official position on candidates for political office. However, we do strongly encourage candidates to attend our monthly meetings, bring items for our media table and discuss their positions before and after our meetings.

For the past several years, Tim Freeman has been an individual dues-paying member of our Chamber of Commerce who regularly attends our monthly meetings and gives us updates about what’s happening at the state level. When he is not able to attend a meeting, he either sends a representative or gives us an email or phone update.

As was reported about Tim by the Sunday letter writers, he attends our Chamber meetings as a member and a friend, not a “politician.” Further, we appreciate that Tim has given his personal and financial support to many of our Chamber-sponsored events.
