Assess and administrate
As a 13-year employee of Douglas County, I’d like to share my view and personal experience with County Assessor Susan Acree.
She came to my office and confronted me during working hours about personal property tax concerning my part-time business. She demanded I fill out forms and explain how I conduct my business, or she would fine me $15,000. I refused to comply with her demands, as the total value of my equipment is less than $1,000. Afterward, she sent one of her employees (twice) to harass me during working hours. I informed the employee to stop harassing me about this or I would contact the proper authorities.
On the morning of April 7, Assessor Acree confronted me in the county parking lot and demanded to know why I was supporting Roger Hartman for county assessor. I told her I didn’t have anything to talk to her about. She was adamant about a response and continued pressing me.
Susan Acree has lost more than 20 employees since taking office. She does not rise to the level of serving as our county’s assessor. Her treatment of me is offensive and unwarranted and certainly more is expected of an elected official.
I am supporting Roger Hartman for county assessor because he is honest, fair and has many years of experience as an administrator. He isn’t achieving office to become a career politician, but to help our county citizens and provide fair tax evaluations. He will commit to serve us all. I support Roger Hartman for Douglas County assessor and you should, as well.
