Letter: Roses at base of Mount Nebo near Interstate 5 Exit 124 an ongoing tribute to Verner "Andy" Anderson's love of community

Andy’s roses looking good

I can’t remember the year, but at some point Roseburg resident, retired dentist and former Oregon State Representative Verner “Andy” Anderson decided to enhance our environment by planting dozens of rose bushes at the base of Mount Nebo. They’re right along the southbound Interstate 5 on-ramp between Exits 124 and 123. Andy recruited help for the project including a donation from the city’s Visitor and Convention Bureau. Even after his passing, the roses continue to add to the beauty of our community.

I recently noticed weeds and neglect were starting to take hold among the roses. Then just the other day, a county crew appeared and trimmed and weeded. As a result, the roses are back and looking good. Thank you, Andy, and thank you, county crew.
