Letter: Be informed and vote smart

Laws should apply to all

The Nevada rancher/grazing fee fiasco in the news recently is a more complicated Constitutional matter than may appear on the surface. I believe this issue will be settled eventually at the Supreme Court. Harry Reid’s opinion is, “We are a country of laws,” and therefore the Bureau of Land Management was on the correct side of the law.

My issue is that Harry Reid and the Obama administration invoke “the rule of law” only when a law suits them. Eric Holder was held in contempt of Congress for refusing to hand over documents. President Obama has changed the Affordable Care Act numerous times. He ignored the Defense of Marriage Act, changed parts of immigration law, appointed recess appointments when there was no recess, etc. We are, therefore, a nation of laws only when it suits this administration.

By being informed and voting smart, maybe we can get leadership that agrees that we are a nation of laws at all times.
