Letter: It's important to define militia

Important to define militia

This is regarding a Jan. 2 letter on our Second Amendment.

Webster’s Dictionary definition of militia: “in the U.S., all able-bodied male citizens between 18 and 45 years old who are not already members of the regular armed forces ...” are the unorganized militia. The definition continues: “members of the National Guard and of the Reserves (of the Army, Air Force, Coast Guard, Navy and Marine Corps) constitute the organized militia.”

In fact any males between the ages of 18 and 45 are also subject to be called and organized for any domestic emergency, like the Tillamook fire years ago, for example. Able-bodied men were “drafted” into the fire-fighting effort. It is looking like we should organize.
