Police Log, Jan. 8, 2013

These logs are the highlights of initial emergency calls and reports to the Douglas County Dispatch Center. They do not represent all the incidents or their final outcomes.



Douglas County sheriff

12:01 a.m. — A woman in the 300 block of Main Street reported hearing her doorknob turn, but saw no one outside.

3:44 a.m. — A woman heard a gunshot right outside her house in the 6200 block of Hayhurst Road in Drain.

4:59 a.m. — A house sitter woke up to the sound of someone going through the house in the 300 block of Bronco Drive in Roseburg.

5:51 a.m. — A woman in the 300 block of Bradley Drive in Canyonville said her ex-boyfriend wanted to steal her stuff and also her mother’s stuff.

8:15 a.m. — Someone was shooting blue pellets at a house in the 200 block of Scottview Street in Glide.

8:51 a.m. — A neighbor’s chickens were once again roaming on a caller’s property in the 700 block of Tenmile Valley Road in Tenmile.

9:21 a.m. — A man and a woman were attempting to break into an apartment in the 100 block of Williams Road in Yoncalla.

9:53 a.m. — A man was upset his dog was coming home with body parts in its mouth. He suspected his neighbor in the 4400 block of Ridenour Street wasn’t properly disposing of deer carcasses.

10:30 a.m. — A former employee of a business on Akin Lane in Roseburg had taken files containing sensitive information about clients.

11:01 a.m. — A person reported a dog was poisoned in the 100 block of Wiesen Drive in the Glide area.

1:37 p.m. — A woman reported that a bearded 20-something man threw gravel on her windshield, breaking it, in the 5100 block of Garden Valley Boulevard in Roseburg.

2:02 p.m. — A man in the 100 block of Trust Avenue in Roseburg reported that someone he had hired to perform home repairs was aggressive and “overbearing.”

3:03 p.m. — A man defrauded his aunt and uncle of $9,200 for roofing work in the 7200 block of Rice Valley Road in Oakland.

3:33 p.m. — A man shot a stray dog in front of some children because it was harassing his rabbits in the 100 block of West Avenue in Sutherlin.

3:40 p.m. — Two men in a white van with tinted windows, one older and with a beard, asked two boys if they wanted some candy at the end of Delmar Drive in Roseburg, near Carnes Road.

3:44 p.m. — A 30-foot-tall dead tree fell on some bare electrical wires in the 200 block of Curtin Park Road in Curtin.

4:17 p.m. — A man in the 200 block of Page Road in Winchester returned from vacation to find that the mail in his mailbox had been opened.

Myrtle Creek Police

6:45 p.m. — A woman in a black Honda equipped with a Breathalyzer was getting her young child to blow into it to start the car in the 300 block of North Main Street.

Oregon State Police

9:43 a.m. — The traffic lights at the Oak Avenue and Stephens Street intersection in Roseburg weren’t working right.

Roseburg Police

1:52 a.m. — A man in the 600 block of Flint Street reported a hitchhiking couple he picked up was acting strange.

9:36 a.m. — A man biking to work was hit by a car in the 2700 block of Edenbower Boulevard. The driver — a woman who lived near the man — did not stop after the collision.

1:03 p.m. — A man was acting very strange in a store in the 400 block of Southeast Stephens Street. He told a clerk he needed to get rid of his cellphone, and when he was asked to remove his backpack, he refused.

3:23 p.m. — A man returned home to find a strange man in a checkered hoody in his house in the 1100 block of Main Street.

3:43 p.m. — A caller reported that a neighbor near the end of Chadwick Street drives drunk to the bars all the time.

4:23 p.m. — A caller reported an ongoing problem of an elderly man standing in the middle of Douglas Avenue blocking traffic near Ramp Road.

5:28 p.m. — A suspicious man in an old Buick was offering money to girls at Roseburg High School to sit with him in his car.

5:56 p.m. — During a vehicle repossession in the 800 block of Northeast Sunset Lane in Roseburg, the owner came outside and got in the vehicle.

6:10 p.m. — An angry-looking young man and woman were carrying a machete, possibly en route to hurt someone, at Georgina Drive and Stella Street in Roseburg.

6:23 p.m. — A man was loitering outside a store and talking to himself in the 4400 block of Highway 99 South.

Sutherlin Police

1:56 p.m. — A man in a green Army jacket was trying to sell a DVD player for $6 in the 100 block of Hutchins Way.

Winston Police

8:14 a.m. — A 11-year-old boy was sent home from school in the 600 block of Elwood Street, but he left campus before his father arrived to pick him up.

5:20 p.m. — A woman found a fanny pack near the river full of cellphones and a gun off Thompson Road.

8:55 p.m. — Suspicious circumstances were reported when a woman tried to buy a used Xbox and other expensive items off Craigslist. When she arrived at the seller’s house, she thought the children there looked unhealthy.



Douglas County sheriff

12:50 p.m. — A fully loaded logging truck slid off Tiller Trail Highway near Milepost 41 in Tiller and was blocking traffic.

Oregon State Police

7:34 a.m. — A dark semitruck drove off Diamond Lake Loop Road two miles west of Diamond Lake.

Roseburg Police

1:17 a.m. — A driver caused “quite a bit” of damage to a vehicle in the 1500 block of Northeast Stephens Street and drove off southbound.

4:04 p.m. — An elderly woman crashed into the back of a blue SUV in the 700 block of Garden Valley Boulevard.

5:42 p.m. — A woman in a dark blue Ford pickup hit another driver at Harvard Avenue and Umpqua Street. She apologized to the other driver then drove off.

Douglas County sheriff

Tyler James Byrd, 31, of Roseburg on suspicion of felony computer crime, first-degree theft, first-degree forgery, second-degree theft and second-degree forgery.

Benjamin Franklin Dalton, 43, on suspicion of possession of marijuana.

Roseburg Police

Ruby Lee Hajos, 32, of Roseburg on suspicion of first-degree theft, second-degree theft and felony computer crime.

Paul Matthew James, 30, of Roseburg on suspicion of first-degree theft and third-degree theft.

Winston Police

Douglas Laroy Bateson, 41, of Roseburg on suspicion of violating restraining order, possession of methamphetamine and a probation violation.



Roseburg Fire Department

12:42 p.m. — A vehicle fire was reported in the 4100 block of Northeast Stephens Street.

12:56 p.m. — A fire alarm was tripped in the 1100 block of Stewart Parkway.
