Letter: Roseburg's VA Cemetery needs a walkway

VA Cemetery needs walkway

“The flowers on the fence are for you, Mom and Dad. Sorry, it is the best I can do.”

The parking lot at the Veteran’s Cemetery in Roseburg is still in need of repair. Yes, it is a mess trying to get in and out of your car in the mud. Yet my plight is a little more personal.

With the changes to the entrance, I am having a hard time placing flowers on the grave of my parents. One gate is now located way down by the river, while the other is by the caretaker’s shed. For me to get to the gravesite, I walk through mud and water during the winter months. There should have been a walkway placed along the fence.

For me it is difficult enough. I think about the little widow who is 70. With her cane, she can’t even make it near her husband’s grave.

Can’t we do something? If it has taken this long for the parking lot, then I will be placing flowers on the fence for my parents for many winters, because it is the best I can do.
