Letter: Consider cause of violence, not the means

Mental health is real issue

It bothers me to say this, but I fear it’s true. American society is going nuts. In the wake of the Newton school massacre and the Aurora theater shooting, our society is entering a state of hysteria. How so? Well, take for instance:

A 6-year old boy was suspended from school in Maryland for pointing his fingers in the fashion of an imaginary gun.

A fluorescent yellow and orange Nerf gun caused a school lock-down in Long Island, N.Y.

The principal of a Massachusetts high school was suspended for acting in a spoof of the Terminator movies shown to students.

Sadly, the means of the crime, the guns, is the focus of our frenzy and the wedge our Imperial President is using to foist his socialist agenda on society with the goal of complete societal control. In the meantime, the root cause of these killings — mental illness — is barely receiving mention.

Let’s focus on the root cause of these calamities, rather than the means. The 9/11 killers didn’t use guns and neither did Timothy McVeigh in Oklahoma City. Suspending children for pointing fingers will never curb this violence and only serves to make adults look stupid.
