Volunteers are invited to join the professional team of Senior Health Insurance Benefits Assistance, which counsels Medicare beneficiaries on different types of insurance available in the marketplace.
SHIBA volunteers also educate Medicare beneficiaries and those new to Medicare on what the federally funded program has to offer and how best to receive the services. Two volunteers are needed on Fridays for office support at the Douglas County Veterans Service Office. A criminal history check is required. Applicants should have people skills, filing and computer skills. The latter will be tested.
Rx Assistance Program is accepting volunteer applications for intake from uninsured clients, and marketing/public relations for the program. Volunteers locate free or reduced-cost medication programs for clients without prescription insurance. Applicants must be computer literate, understand office procedures, have a professional telephone manner and complete data input accurately. They must also complete a criminal history check and attend out-of-town training.
Healthy kids Program is requesting two volunteers to assist in the process of enrolling children in the insurance program. Duties include returning phone calls, entering information online and filing paperwork and faxing applications to Salem. Volunteers will occasionally attend school or community events to hand out information and free items to families with children. Applicants must complete a criminal history check, have computer skills and operate a copy machine.
The Roseburg Veterans Affairs Medical Center needs volunteers to help drive patients to and from VA appointments in the Roseburg area, using the VA van. Applicants must have a valid driver’s license and current personal insurance. They must also pass a physical and background check, which involves being fingerprinted. Volunteers will receive training and be tested for tuberculosis.
Douglas County Senior Services Dining Sites/Meals-On-Wheels offers a place for volunteers to connect with their peers. There are seven senior dining sites around Douglas County. If you have one in your community, you know the demand for volunteers is ongoing. This is your invitation to assist the seniors of your community.
Manor House Memory Care has opportunities in several departments. Two volunteers are requested to participate on the Monday and Wednesday bus trips. Two volunteers also are needed to be instructors in ball toss or chair yoga. Also needed are two volunteers to spend time or simple gardening, share musical talents or craft abilities.
