Prep Basketball: Crater stuns Roseburg boys in last second, 57-55

CENTRAL POINT — The Crater High boys basketball team dished out a little payback Tuesday for its crushing loss earlier this season in Roseburg.

Connor Lane rebounded teammate RJ Morgan’s missed 3-pointer in the closing moments and powered it in with one second to spare, giving the Comets a 57-55 win over the Indians in Southern Oregon Hybrid action.

Lane, a 6-foot-7 junior, racked up game-highs of 22 points and 13 rebounds. On Jan. 7, he watched as Andrew Weber scored at the hoop with 3.8 seconds left to make the Indians 49-47 winners at Robertson Memorial Gym.

This time, it was the Comets (10-9 overall, 3-5 SOH) pulling off the theatrics, coming back from six points down with a minute left. Cody Dismukes trimmed that lead with a 3-point play, and Morgan erased it on the next possession with a 3-point field goal.

The teams traded free throws before Roseburg’s missed jumper gave Crater the final shots.

Roseburg (13-5, 4-3) has dropped three straight SOH road games and is two games behind ninth-ranked South Medford for the league lead.

The Indians were led by Weber’s 14 points. Drew Groshong hit double-figures for the second straight game with 12 points and Alex Johnson had 10.

The Indians host third-place North Medford (12-6, 3-4) on Friday.
