Voter supports Sheriff Hanlin
Much has been said and contended about Sheriff Hanlin’s recent statements. Most of what was said via editorial letters has been misquoted. Sheriff Hanlin’s letter to Vice President Biden never said “... wanted no role in enforcing new federal gun laws.” (The News-Review, Feb. 3 Public Forum).
What he did say in his letter was that he will not permit the enforcement of any unconstitutional regulations or orders by federal officers within the borders of Douglas County. The key words are “unconstitutional regulations.” He is not talking about defying the laws of the land, but rather capricious regulations enacted without due process, which are unconstitutional.
When Sheriff Hanlin took office, he took an oath to uphold the constitutional rights of the people he serves, and he made it perfectly clear that he is planning on doing just that. I’d like to thank Sheriff Hanlin! We need more people with the same values and high standards he has.
If more of our elected officials, including the president, would have the required respect, backbone, and ethical code of conduct to uphold the Constitution and its inalienable rights, our beloved America would not be in the path of destruction that it is, but that’s another letter altogether.
Sheriff Hanlin, and any other elected official who pledges to uphold the Constitution, has had and will have my vote, regardless of party affiliation.
