Letter: Will vote for Hanlin again

Will vote for Hanlin again

I congratulate our sheriff and the others who submitted letters to Vice President Biden. I wish more had the courage to speak for their constituents.

I have known John Hanlin and his family for more than 40 years. He is an honest man with integrity that anyone would be proud to have as a friend and fellow citizen. I am confident that he will enforce all laws that are deemed by the courts to be valid. No public officer in any position should ever enforce any law that is contrary to the provisions of our federal or state constitution.

During the gap in time between the passage of the law and the interpretation by the courts, elected individuals must do their best to determine the allocation of resources available to enforce a myriad of laws. That is why they are “elected” and held politically accountable to their electorate.

Like all citizens, Sheriff Hanlin is entitled to have an opinion on all matters that concern our nation and our state. If you don’t agree with his opinion, then don’t vote for him. I don’t think it will matter, though. He will win by a landslide. I voted for him last time and will vote for him every time he runs for office. He is a good man and a good sheriff.
