Letter: Supporting America and the Constitution

Why I support America

I have been reading all the articles on Sheriff Hanlin. I came to the conclusion that most of the people writing the articles do not understand it was not the Supreme Court that gave Americans the right to keep and bear arms. The Constitution of the United States gave We the People this Second Amendment. The Second Amendment reads, “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”

This amendment is so important that it is the Second Amendment, not the Tenth or Fifteenth Amendment. The last four words the forefathers chose could have been a variety of words, but they chose “shall not be infringed” (infringe: to commit a breach or infraction of; violate or transgress).

The very ones who are trying to pass new gun laws took an oath to uphold the Constitution. Hanlin took this very same oath to uphold the Constitution. So it looks like to me like the ones who are trying to change the Constitution did not take their oath seriously and they are infringing on the Second Amendment which the forefathers thought was so important that the last four words were again, “shall not be infringed.”

My hope is that Americans will not change the Constitution, but take the time to resolve this problem for the good of all.
