Keep the bus service local The News-Review’s Feb. 8 article, “Putting the brakes on,” covered the Winston-Dillard School District’s efforts to outsource student transportation to a for-profit corporation. Superintendent Kevin Miller used some big numbers, while leaving out a critical fact. The state reimburses school districts 70 percent of the cost of providing bus service to students. Miller said student transportation costs the district $898,843 annually, but when the reimbursement is factored into the equation, the true cost to the district is $270,000. Winston-Dillard School District provides safe, reliable student transportation for 30 cents on the dollar. Outsourcing does not …
