College Basketball: UCC teams fall at Lane

EUGENE — Little went right for the Umpqua Community College women’s basketball game against second-ranked Lane Wednesday night.

The Riverhawks shot 24 percent from the field and gave up 26 points off turnovers in an 89-58 Southern Region loss.

Umpqua (17-9, 7-6 South) dropped into a tie with Southwestern Oregon for fourth place in the league race with one regular season game remaining.

Jordan Wilcox scored 22 points off the bench — hitting seven 3-point field goals — for the Titans (25-2, 11-2), who led 45-25 at halftime. Megan Shields added 16 points.

Rachel Sample and Kyndal Charleston each scored 15 points for UCC. Asia Smith grabbed 11 rebounds, but went scoreless in 20 minutes. Christal Jeff chipped in 10 points and six rebounds.

The Riverhawks host No. 1 Clackamas on Saturday in their regular season finale.

EUGENE — The No. 8 Titans (20-7, 8-5) used a 57-26 rebounding advantage to shoot 63 percent from the field in a Southern Region win over the Riverhawks.

Jared Knox led Umpqua (7-17, 4-9) with 21 points. Jonathan Bolston added 12 points, and Jeremy Smith eight points and seven rebounds.

The Riverhawks end their season Saturday at home against Clackamas.
