College Basketball: UCC teams drop season finales

WINCHESTER — Clackamas escaped with an 82-81 Southern Region men’s basketball overtime win over Umpqua Saturday, finishing in a three-way tie for third place in the league race.

Brock Lutes had 24 points and 10 rebounds for the Cougars (16-12, 8-6 South). Kirby Hawkins chipped in 20 points, and Jordan Mosby-Barber 19 points and 12 rebounds.

Chris Mock finished with 18 points and four assists for the Riverhawks (7-18, 4-10), who ended their season. Jeremy Smith contributed 12 points and 11 rebounds, Jared Knox 14 points, John Luckett 10 points and seven rebounds and Cole Gatewood 10 points.

UCC trailed 39-33 at halftime.

Clackamas 85 Umpqua 56

WINCHESTER — Laci Effenberger scored 21 points — sinking four of the top-ranked Cougars’ 13 3-point field goals — in a Southern Region victory over the Riverhawks in the regular season finale.

Umpqua (17-10, 7-7 South) saw its season come to an end. The Riverhawks finished one game behind Southwestern Oregon (15-11, 8-6), which defeated Chemeketa 82-50 Saturday, in fifth place in the league race and the Lakers get the fourth and final berth for the NWAACC tournament.

Rachel Sample led the Riverhawks with 16 points and five assists. Kyndal Charleston contributed 14 points, while Shannon Jackson had eight points and nine rebounds.

UCC committed 25 turnovers. Neither team shot well, Clackamas faring 39 percent from the field and UCC 37 percent.
